If you are using the keyboard solo, use the controls on the right. These are WASD to move in all directions and E to use emotes. Whilst pressing CTRL allows you to chop items, ALT will make your character dash around the map, allowing you to move faster. Spacebar is used to pick up and drop items. Sharing the keyboard is a little more complicated. Player 1 uses the left half, with player 2 using the right half.
Player 1 uses WASD to move, E to emote and SHIFT to pick up and drop items. CTRL will Chop/Throw items and Left ALT will allow your character to dash.

Meanwhile, player 2 can use the arrow keys to move around and I to do emotes. Dashing can be done with ALT GR, Chopping & Throwing with CTRL. Finally, items can be picked up and dropped with right SHIFT.

Why do you play video games? For some people that answer is to unwind, relax and de-stress after a particularly difficult day but for others – well they play Overcooked. The original game quickly became a multiplayer darling thanks to its fast and frenetic action that tasked players with managing a kitchen during a busy dinner rush. It’s a strong concept and one that the team over at Ghost Town Games executed practically perfectly the first time around. So it’s not too surprising to see the sequel not stray too far from the original and build upon that gameplay concept to deliver a game that fixes some issues, adds in new gameplay options but at the same time also feels just a bit too similar to what we feasted on back in 2016.
Sound studio 4 9 506. If you played the original Overcooked then you’ll feel right at home with the sequel. Once again you’ll be making orders for your hungry patrons by preparing ingredients and then combining them in order to be served. Early stages start of simple enough with your customers pretty much only ordering sashimi and sushi and other things that aren’t too hard to make and which don’t need a lot of prep but the heat will soon get turned up as you’ll need to manage recipes that require different steps in order to be edible like steaming or blending as well as managing your small amount of plates in order to keep things flowing out of your kitchen as smoothly and efficiently as possible.
Simply put, the gameplay in Overcooked 2 is just as hectic as it was back in the original but the developers did add in one very welcomed (if unsanitary) new feature – the ability to throw food to a teammate. This new mechanic is definitely helpful in the game’s more standard levels but becomes invaluable when your kitchen just happens to be the kind that floats in the sky or is constantly changing layouts (you know, like where the celebrities eat). And like the original game teamwork and cooperation are the keys to your success so you definitely want to be a good teammate and properly communicate what you are doing and what you need from your partners.
But what if you’re playing the game solo? In that case you have my deepest condolences as Overcooked 2 is just not designed to be played by less than two players (four is ideal but two is manageable). This is because there’s just so much you need to manage at once that trying to take it on yourself quickly becomes overwhelming and is just plain not fun. Sure the game gives you two chefs to work with if you’re playing alone but there’s no AI controlling your partner and you have to constantly switch between to two to get things done. This is a really slow system and I found myself constantly getting confused as to who was supposed to be doing what and was just unable to progress too far in the game with only myself manning the kitchen.
This of course was also an issue in the first game, especially for those of us out there who do most of their multiplayer gaming via the internet. Thankfully it seems like the voices of the fans were heard loud and clear over at Ghost Town Games as the developers included a full online multiplayer suite in Overcooked 2, which not as fun as being able to scream at people sitting on the same couch as you is still a vastly superior option than taking on the game solo. In this mode you can take on the campaign with friends or random players across the world. Breaking it down further I do recommend trying to find friends who also have the game as I found it easier to coordinate ways to communicate with people you know rather than random people online but it’s not a deal breaker.

The addition of an online mode, while definitely the biggest change to come to Overcooked 2 isn’t the only difference between this and the original. As previously mentioned the levels are a lot more dynamic this time around and can even change themes partway through a stage forcing you to fundamentally change your approach and organisation in order to remain successful. The game also adds in a ton of new chefs to collect and play as well as special ‘Kevin the Dog’ challenges that are absolutely brutal and will require clockwork precision to be cleared (don’t even bother trying these on your own).
One area though that hasn’t seen a major overhaul is in the game’s presentation which is practically identical to the original. Everything from the characters, the food and (to an extent) the UI are very similar to what they were in Overcooked. However the same cannot be said for the stages themselves which are now much more dynamic and visually diverse than they were in the first game. Every time I entered a new area I was excited to see what kind of wacky place I would be cooking in and the game rarely disappointed with extremely creative level design that always felt as fresh as a garden salad. I do have to say though that I found the soundtrack a bit underwhelming not due a lack of quality but because I found it a bit bland for my taste.
While not an overly long game (Overcooked 2 has 36 main levels) its longevity is earned thanks to its replayability and ability to easily become the life of any gaming party. Love it or hate it the three-star rating system works wonders here and provides just enough incentive to keep you coming back for seconds in an effort to get the best possible score and unlock all of the game’s features and extra levels. Add to the that the game’s wallet-friendly price (of $24.99) and you have yourself a great deal if you’re looking for a bite-sized multiplayer title that you can pull out whenever people come over to visit.

The gameplay has been refined and made faster thanks to the addition of throwing food and items, the levels are more varied and dynamic than they have ever been and the addition of an online multiplayer mode is the cherry on the sundae. Of course all these changes are nice to have and I don’t think I could ever go back to the first game after playing Overcooked 2 but I can’t shake the feeling that it’s just a bit too similar to what came before. Don’t get me wrong, it’s a great game, especially in multiplayer, and should be an instant-buy for anyone looking to kick-start their video game party into high gear. But if Ghost Town Games ever decides to go back for thirds I would hope for a bit more of a departure from what we’ve already tasted. Sqlpro studio 1 0 163 – powerful database manager role.
